Variation of Teichmuller geodesics
The Teichmuller metric has several properties associated with nonpositively curved spaces, but it is neither CAT(0) nor Gromov hyperbolic. I will define a triangle condition which can be interpreted as describing the variation of geodesics, prove it for Teichmuller space, and explain some geometric consequences. One main application is a multiplicative ergodic theorem for random walks by mapping classes.
