Title:  Stanley-Reisner Rings and Simplicial Complexes

Abstract:   I will give an introduction to Stanley-Reisner theory which provides a connection between combinatorics and commutative algebra. I will discuss the correspondence between simplicial complexes and squarefree monomial ideals and some phenomena which arise from this such as the connections between f-vectors and Hilbert series and between Alexander duality and associated primes.
