Title:  Singularities of nilpotent type in rings of positive characteristic

When a ring R has positive characteristic, the Frobenius homomorphism provides a great amount of information about the nature of the singularities of R. For instance, singularities of nilpotent type correspond to rings whose local cohomology modules are nilpotent with respect to the canonical Frobenius action.

In this talk, I will discuss how singularities of nilpotent type are related to Cohen-Macaulay singularities. In particular, I will present our current understanding of how these singularities behave under blow-ups. This is part of ongoing joint work with Kyle Maddox and Lance E. Miller.
