Title: Penrose's incompleteness theorem
Abstract: A central area of study in general relativity is the formation of spacetime singularities. In the 1960s, Roger Penrose proved a theorem related to this area of study, in particular concerning the issue of geodesic incompleteness in spacetimes. In doing so, he introduced the very important notion of closed trapped surfaces. In this talk, we will introduce and discuss closed trapped surfaces, focal points, and the proof of Penrose's theorem.
