Title:  Fokas' method for linear evolution equations

Abstract:   The classical Fourier series / transform methods are effective in solving initial-boundary value problems for the second order heat and linear Schroedinger equations. However these methods generally fail for equations of higher spatial order, except when very simple boundary conditions are assumed. In contrast, Fokas' method may be used to solve higher order problems with arbitrary boundary conditions. We will fully implement the method for the heat equation and indicate the minimal extensions necessary for more complicated evolution equations.
