We have been informed that former Mathematics Department faculty member Robert M. Thrall passed away this week in Philadelphia. The notice is here http://www.legacy.com/philly/DeathNotices.asp?Page=Lifestory&PersonId=17403820. Thrall was on the UM faculty from 1937 to 1969. He went to Rice University where he was Chair of the Mathematics Department and was instrumental in the formation of their Computational and Applied Mathematics Department. He was a widely recognized scholar in operations research and management science. If other have additional information to share, please feel free to do so.
