Image Maps
Figure 7: PageMill drawing tools
To create Image Maps in PageMill,
- insert the image into the document;
- double click on the image to display the drawing tools on the tool bar (figure 7)
- select the rectangle, circle, or polygon hotspot tool (e.g., the rectangle, as shown in figure 7)
- drag the tool over the image to select that part of it which is to link to another document
- select the hotspot by clicking the selector tool, and then make a link as usual
Forms:
Figure 8: PageMill form buttons
To create forms, PageMill has a set of form element buttons along the top of the document window (figure 8), starting with a checkbox element (where the cursor in figure 8 is located) and including other common form elements. Clicking any of these buttons inserts the form element into the document. To set the characteristics (including name and value) of a form element, select it by clicking once and then open the Inspector (figure 2). To create radio buttons, make one radio button, select it by clicking on it, and hold down the Option key while dragging it to a new location. Alternately, one can make two or more radio buttons and then use the Inspector to give them the same name. Form elements such as text and textarea elements may be resized by clicking on them and then dragging an edge.
Hidden form elements may be added using Edit -> Insert Invisible -> Hidden Field. To set the form action, use the form tab of the Inspector. Actually making the form do something beyond a simple mailto: requires CGI scripting.
Frames
Figure 9a: PageMill target icon (right) Figure 9b: PageMill target menu (right)
To set up frames in a PageMill document, either select Edit ->Split Horizonally (or Vertically), or holding the option key down click on the edge of the document and drag inwards. Frames may be resized by clicking on the frame border and dragging. To remove frames, click on the frame border and drag it horizontally or vertically until it is on top of the opposite border of the frame; then answer "OK" to the question "Remove the adjoining frame?". Other frame options may be set through the Inspector. To add a noframes message, select Edit -> No Frames Message in a framed document. When a framed document is saved, each frame and the frameset page must be saved. Thus, for a framed document the File -> Save and -> Save As options become File -> Save Frame (As) and File -> Save Frameset (As).
To set the target for a link in a framed document, create the link as usual. Then triple click on the link to select it, and click on the target icon at the bottom right of the PageMill document window (figure 9a). This displays the target menu (figure 9b)---targets are:
- default: the same page as the link
- new window: a new browser window
- parent frameset: a window as the top-level frameset containing the link
- same frame: the same frame as the link
- same window: the same window as the link
- Or, select one of the document frames shown schematically at the bottom of the target menu.
